Director profile

Hideto Tanaka

It all started with a gift I begged my parents for when I was in elementary school. I went to a toy store in town and said, "I want to look at the stars," and they bought me what I pointed to. But when I opened the box, I found a microscope.... (lol)
Sometime later, I saved up my allowance to buy an astronomical telescope, and when I saw Saturn for the first time, it was an experience that I cannot compare to anything else.
Now, I don't know how it happened, but I am the director of Onidake Observatory, which operates one of the best 60cm Newtonian reflecting telescopes in Kyushu of Japan. I hope to be able to share with you some of the excitement I felt when I first saw Saturn.
I am sincerely looking forward to your visit.
